AIAA OUTREACH

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is the professional society for aerospace engineering.

The University of Michigan Student Branch seeks "to educate and excite students at U-M about aerospace technologies and science, and to promote fellowship among students interested in these topics."

Our objective is "to advance the arts, sciences, and technology of aeronautics and astronautics. AIAA fosters the professional development of those engaged in scientific and engineering activities."

Outreach Program Overview

The AIAA UM Student Branch aims to spread our passion for and knowledge of aerospace and STEM to others by educating and inspiring the next generation of rocket scientists! We do this by organizing and conducting K-12 outreach activities at schools, holding the biannual Aerospace Day event where elementary through high school students are immersed in various rotational activities and attend tours and presentations, coordinating a mentorship program between high school and college students, engaging in public policy initiatives, and more.

We are excited to now offer more virtual activities for students, such as the Introduction to C++ course we have designed.

Mentorship Program Registration coming soon!

Our mission is to facilitate relationships between high school and college students through career exploration, help setting both long and short-term goals, and providing networking opportunities. The primary purpose of the relationship is to enhance students' life skills and prepare them for a successful transition to post high school education and employment. Students learn about the diversity of opportunities and experiences in engineering, particularly Aerospace Engineering. This year we seek to expand the asynchronous email mentorship communication to engage virtually with the mentees, including a kickoff event, various educational activities, and potential group game or trivia nights.

OUR VIRTUAL ACTIVITIES

In this interactive introduction, you’ll learn the basics of C++ coding while working on several activities. At the end, you’ll be able to create a simple statistics program, a program that simulates rocket flight, and a program that helps an airline choose new flight destinations.
